In recent times the western world has undergone a transportation change. While the majority of people in the western world seemed most interested in travelling via automobile, in the last couple of decades many people have been choosing the bicycle as their primary mode of transportation. Perhaps this because the last couple of decades have seen a major shift in the popularity of “living green.” Maybe it is because the cost of gas is just too high. The fact is there are plenty more cyclists on the road now than there were just a few years ago. Maybe you have considered buying a bike? If you have then there are several things you should look at when you do.

The first thing you should think about, which is pretty obvious, needs to be the cost. Of course there are going to be other things to think about, like where you plan to ride or how long you will be using this bicycle, but the price is still most important.

If you are new to the bike buying business, you will see that the price can be anywhere from a few hundred dollars to a few thousand dollars. It's not going to matter if you don't have thousands of dollars to put on a bike, because there is a way you can find a great bike for a runaway price. You can go to auctions and find some of the best bikes available for a fraction of the price of new ones.

What kind of add-ons must you have? If you will need to transport things with your bike, you’ll need a basket. Will you need to transport a child? Needing a child seat attachment will alter which bikes you can choose from. If towing something behind the bike, your need will change again. Your new bike needs to support the weight of the trailer if this is your plan.

The angle of your seat (also called the saddle) is also important. There are several angles you can tilt your seat at. You might find that a perfectly flat seat is a little uncomfortable and that you prefer to lean forward a little bit. Continue to adjust your seat until it feels the best for you. You could leave it as it is, but the narrow part of the seat might not allow you to find here rest comfortably in a forward leaning position.

As you can see, there are several things you should keep in mind when you decide on a bicycle that's right for you. There are so many different bicycles and accessories available that it can feel overwhelming as you try to decide which items are best for you. If you will not jump into things and try and educate yourself on what you need, you will be pleased with the results.
